Elevating Fluency is committed to addressing the literacy needs of young readers. We have cultivated our experiences as Literacy and Biliteracy Coaches, Reading Interventionists, and classroom teachers to develop a fluency program for all levels of readers in the primary grades. We believe that prevention and early intervention are paramount to reading success for all striving readers.
Elevating Fluency combines mutliple strategies that are aligned with the science of reading research. We offer a three tiered approach to developing fluency skills in young readers who are learning to read in English and/or Spanish. This program meets the diverse needs of your learners. It provides fluency practice with targeted grade level phonics skills for all levels of readers.
The program can be used for:
Elevating Fluency is a highly motivating reading fluency program that provides prevention and early intervention to elevate literacy skills. It gives young readers practice with grade level concepts while developing fluency skills. Reading fluency is a critical part of becoming a skilled reader. Reading passages have been created for each level of reader in the first grade classroom. It works in conjunction with the phonics scope and sequence provided by the core curriculum. This program will build vocabulary, increase phonics skills with focused decoding and encoding practice, and elevate fluency and comprehension. Elevating Fluency is aligned with the science of reading and specifically uses recommended strategies for students who have reading difficulties, including dyslexia.
By providing three tiered levels of reading passages for each phonics skill, students are given the stepping stones needed to move them closer to grade level reading fluency. These differentiated lessons meet the diverse needs within each classroom. The program is designed to continually elevate the fluency skills of all striving readers in the classroom while securing fluency skills for students at grade level.
Students will read interesting passages that are fiction and non-fiction. They have a graph on their paper for several reasons. Self-tracking increases motivation and engagement in the lesson. The graph gives these young readers immediate feedback on their success. This visual is also a key piece to connecting with parents to help students communicate their reading success.
Parent involvement with their child’s literacy is a vital component of literacy proficiency, especially for students with reading difficulties. Any additional practice at home of concepts currently being taught, as well as reviewing previous concepts, is beneficial for all children. Elevating Fluency has a parent letter (in English and Spanish) that explains the lesson and how parents can help strengthen their child’s literacy skills by having them read the target words and passage to them and save the passages for continued review of concepts previously taught. Students are so proud of their achievement that they can’t wait to show their parents how well they can read the passage. This is a very quick and fun way to get striving readers motivated to practice their skills at home in a meaningful way.
